We are thankful that all of our staff and their families remain safe, as Mission leadership continues to assess the needs of Young Life staff across the Southeast division. We are now a few weeks into the recovery process, and what follows are updates for the camps affected:
- Repairs to the Carolina Point main office have been completed, with downed trees and debris mostly cleared from all visible areas of camp. Camp is now running smoothly, with groups being hosted regularly as scheduled (the only remaining affected activity is archery tag, which remains down for now). Additionally, the Carolina Point Guest Services team spent two days this week assisting Windy Gap, and the Carolina Point staff also continue to volunteer locally.
- Debris and fallen trees at Windy Gap have now been removed, with roadways and sidewalks now mostly cleared. The ropes course and swing have been repaired, inspected, and are officially reopen! Reconstruction has now begun on the volleyball courts and lakes as restoration and deep cleaning efforts continue. And, from October 7-21, Windy Gap had the honor of hosting around 450 U.S. Army soldiers as they supported relief efforts across western North Carolina.
- Southwind has now fully recovered from Hurricane Milton and is back to full operation.
We will continue to make updates as we become aware. In the meantime, please continue praying for the staff at Windy Gap and Carolina Point and the surrounding, impacted communities. You can also consider supporting Windy Gap and Carolina Point via the funds below:
