Introducing Adaptive Planning in Workday

What is Adaptive?

Adaptive Planning is a new application in Workday that allows you to view revenue and expenses, budget for operating costs and campership, and build projections.

Adaptive replaces Cash Flow, and starting today, you can see FY23 financials and beyond. However, remember that your FY25 budget will still be completed and approved in Cash Flow. As we build out functionality in Adaptive, you can plan on using it for budgeting in future years.

Who is Adaptive for?

Adaptive is available for Cash Flow users — field staff, Mission Services staff, and committee members. Camp staff will continue to use Vena for viewing and projecting finances.

How do I access Adaptive?

To access Adaptive, on a desktop you’ll go to “Menu” in Workday and click on “Add Apps” at the bottom of the menu tray. See here for complete instructions. Please note that Adaptive is not available on the mobile app.

What can I see in Adaptive?

Currently, you can see four reports:

  • Operating revenue and expense actuals
    • Revenue, expense, revenue less expense, ending cash balance, and cash months
  • Campership revenue and expense actuals
    • Revenue, revenue less expense, and ending cash balance
  • Full income statement
    • Operating and campership revenues, expenses, and net income
  • Operating cash balances and deficit actions
    • Hierarchy of cost centers, monthly ending cash balances, and current and past deficit actions

You may need to select a level or timespan of a report and you may need some guidance regarding what you’re looking at when reading a report.

More functionality is coming. Please watch for when it’s available:

  • Payroll report
    • Showing details about payroll per cost center
  • Campership ending cash balance (with a cost center hierarchy) report
  • A dashboard with charts, graphs, etc., to display data
  • Forecasting and budgeting tools
